The importance of addressing employees emotional well being has recently come to the forefront of many business discussions. Why Employ Organisational Psychotherapy Services?
The latest estimates from the Labour Force survey show that the total number of cases of work related stress, depression and anxiety in 2014/15 was 440,000 and the total number of working days lost due to work-related stress, depression and anxiety was 9.9 million. this equates to 35% of all work-related ill health cases and 43% of all working days los due to ill health.
Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, all employers have a legal obligation to ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, the health and safety of their employees at work.
Regulation 3 of the Management of health and safety at Work Regulations 1999 requires employers to assess risks to health and safety from hazards of work. this includes the risk of employers developing a mental health or stress related illness because of their work.
Therefore, a critical argument for tackling emotional well-being at work under the remit of UK health and safety law is that stress related to work must be risk assured and managed like any other hazard.
