What happens next?
I will offer you an initial assessment session. This will enable us to meet and discuss any worries or concerns you may have and decide whether we feel that we want to work together. During this assessment session we can discuss cognitive behavioural psychotherapy in more detail and decide if it will be the right type of therapy for you. This assessment session also gives you the opportunity to raise any concerns about therapy and we can discuss for how long and how often you will need to come to therapy.

How long/often will I be coming to therapy for?
During our initial session we will agree how often and how many times you will come to therapy. This is not set in stone, however, and we will perhaps agree to review this after six sessions. CBT is a much shorter therapy than counselling and usually can be anywhere between 6 and 20 sessions. You should attend no less than once a fortnight and usually no more than twice a week.

Is therapy confidential?
Confidentiality is very important in any type of therapy. Our sessions together will be confidential and any information shared by you will be respected and kept in a secure place. However, in exceptional circumstances I am legally required to break confidentiality. For example, if you indicate that there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others. We will discuss this further at our initial meeting.

Do you have regular supervision?
I work to the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) code of conduct and ethics. To become, and remain, accredited by the BABCP there is a requirement that I receive adequate supervision. For this reason and, indeed, for my personal development and regulation, I have supervision every fortnight with a qualified supervisor.

What happens if I do not want to continue?
You are under no obligation to continue with therapy once you have started, and you can end the arrangement at any time. However, for your own benefit it is better to discuss this with me so that we can agree an end date in order to conclude our relationship in a positive and resolved manner.

What happens if I want to change or cancel a session?
If you wish to cancel an appointment I require a minimum of 24 hours notice otherwise you will be liable for the full cost of the missed session. I endeavour to be flexible and will support any requests for appointment changes that I can. If I am unable to accommodate any change of appointment and I cannot resell the time that has been booked, the full fee is due. This helps me to control my costs and minimises the need to increase my fee.

Can I use Health insurance to cover the cost of sessions?
If you have private health insurance it is likely that you will be able to access therapy using your cover. Emma Beagrie is a provider for most health insurance companies including BUPA, AXA, AVIVA, WPA, VITALITY and many more. Please get in touch to discuss further.
